Welcome to Front Range Green Building Blog by Brian Brainerd. I am blogging the latest developments in sustainable, energy efficient and healthy building practices along the Colorado Front Range — from Pueblo to Fort Collins.
Over the past 20 years, I have made a professional practice of sustainable development in downtown Denver. My current development project, Little Flower Urban Dwellings, is designed for certification under LEED for Homes by the US Green Building Council.
We are applying our green building knowledge to energy efficient retrofit of existing homes through our new company, US Weatherizing, specialists in Home Performance with Energy Star, a program of the US Dept of Energy. We believe energy efficiency improvements are the first step any home owner should take before adding renewable energy systems. These simple improvements pay for themselves in just a year or two.
The simple fact about greenhouse gases is 60% of those carbon emissions are a result of heating, cooling and operating buildings, so we are committed to the idea that energy efficient homes are good for your health and good for our planet.
We hope you will visit often and please submit any questions you would like to have us answer about green building, building performance and renewable energy.
Cheers! — Brian Brainerd
